Creating a real film look from digital footage

Creating a real film look

Studio Daily recently held a 70 minute webinar in partnership with Assimilate Scratch on how to create a film look from digital footage by adding a ‘film intermediate’ into the post workflow.

The short film Curfew was shot on RED MX with anamorphic lenses, colour graded in Scratch, then recorded to film negative and then re-graded with a one-light pass to finish. Jerome Thelia, co-founder of Merge Group in New York, covers the use of log scans, LUTs, anamorphic resizing, histograms, RED gamma 2 and split screens for color matching/comparison. He also gives a step by step tutorial on how to remove dust and scratches using the Vector Paint plugin in Scratch.
