Free Online DIT Training

LightIron Digital – DIT Training

If you’re a DIT (or want to be) and interested in learning more about LightIron’s own brand of DIT carts and software then this post is for you. I love LightIron’s philosophy that their training is ‘in house and on the house’ and with their recently announced Outpost University they’re extending their training online with 2 hours of free video lectures as well as their usual follow on ‘in person’ free 3 session courses.

The State of D-Cinema course covers file-based workflows, best practices for storage and archive, strategies for improving hand-off to post, insights on the newest technologies in the marketplace and creative options for on-set color correction and look management.

Masterclass on calibrating your monitor

Jay Holben has written up a lengthy introduction on how to properly calibrate your monitor using SMPTE color bars. If you’re a DIT, editor or colorist having a color accurate monitor is obviously critical to being able to tell your clients that what they are seeing really is how it looks and will look later on down the line. Jay breaks down how the bars are designed and how to use them effectively.

Working with LOG footage

If you’re shooting on or working with LOG footage, from a camera like the Canon C300, then Andy Shipsides post on Abelcine will help you navigate the finer details of the LOG mode.
