Invest in your creative career – The Importance of Ergonomics

Ergonomics for Creatives – a Life Long Career Investment

My brother is an animator and pointed me to this great video on the importance of ergonomics in ensuring you’ll still be physically able to do what you love in 20 years… With that in mind there can be no greater investment in your career than in ergonomics!

Why should you buy a Wacom graphics tablet?

I’ve just bought a Wacom Intuos 4 Medium (US) graphics tablet after starting to get tingles in my mouse hand, and found this guide really helpful in deciding which one to get. It seems to be the industry standard. After a couple of days of getting used to the new hand-eye co-ordination it has not only stopped the tingling, sped up my workflow but also made working a whole lot more pleasurable!

Chairs & Desks – Getting the basics right…

Also invest in a proper desk/chair set up, otherwise its all for naught. The Logic RH4 is the best chair you can get, but it isn’t cheap – look around for a good quality second hand one. Also pop into an ergonomics shop (like the Backshop in London) and get them to help you discover what height your desk should be for your body and give you some basic pointers.

If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. Invest in the tools of your trade and they will pay their way in next to no time. As a film editor I sit and use my hands all day so what better place to invest than in those two things. Next up is probably some super-sweet calibrated display! – Give my eyes something decent to gawk at all day…
