Davinci Resolve 11 Colour Grading Tutorials

DaVinci Resolve 11 Colour Grading Tutorials

DaVinci Resolve 11 is now out of beta and available to download for free, either as the Lite version or as a free upgrade for fully paid-up customers. In this post I’ve gathered together a bunch of DaVinci Resolve 11 tutorials but please note: Not all tutorials are created equal! Some of these tutorials are from amateur colorists finding their way through the software or sharing how they do things. With the internet you generally get what you pay for, and these are free. So if in doubt, trust an expert and pay for some training.

In these three 2 minute tutorials Tristan Kneschke from Premiumbeat.com shares some quick tips on how to make the most of the new group grading functions in Resolve 11 as well as how to perform soft clipping and using the chroma dark preset to fix messy images.

Photographer Curtis Judd continues his series of grading tutorials in Resolve 11 with this 11 minute tutorial on the new colour match feature, which allows you to automatically conform your grade to a pre-shot colour chart.

In this 12 minute walk through, Theo from Miesner Media shares his favourite new features in Resolve 11, which is a useful way to find out about new features that you might not have been aware of. In the two look creation tutorials below, Theo demonstrates how to create a vintage look as well as an Aviator inspired two-stripe look.

Tracking Power windows in Resolve 11

In this short tutorial from Sidney based freelance Cinematographer Glenn Hanns you can learn how to keep your power windows properly tracked, even when they get obscured. A nice tip delivered in a leisurely style.

DaVinci Resolve Complete Workflow Webinar

If you’ve never even used DaVinci Resolve and are wondering how it will fit into your post-production workflow, what hardware might be needed for it or have technical questions about how Resolve works under the hood, then this hour long webinar from Ernie Schaffer will give you a very solid grounding in answering those questions. Although Ernie is talking about Resolve 9 almost all his material still applies today. Well worth a watch if you’re new to Resolve.

Learn Colour Grading.com Tutorial Series

Cinematographer Alex Jordan from LearnColourGrading.com talks through the new colour match feature in a packed 5 minute tutorial. Alex also has a full course available from Udemy – which I’ve not seen so I can’t necessarily recommend. (Personally, I would go with Alexis Van Hurkman’s Ripple Training which is excellent – plus he wrote the manual and a couple of books on it!) That said, here are the rest of Alex’s free tutorials! If you’re after even more free stuff, Alex offers some free ‘creative LUTS’ to download from his site.

Grading BMPCC RAW Files in DaVinci Resolve 11

In this 20 minute tutorial Casey Faris walks through how to grade both Pro Res and RAW files from a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera in DaVinci Resolve 11.

Again, Casey doesn’t strike me as a professional colorist and so if you are looking for quality paid training materials you will definitely be better off checking out something like Warren Eagles FXPHD training, which is $199 for 10 x 30 minute tutorials, as explained by the man himself in the promo below.
